Midland Railway Centre today.....

Anyone help with this one?

Passed the Ironville end of the Midland Railway Centre today on the bus and caught a quick sight of a couple of diesels and a shunter at the end of the line, there was no coaching stock so I am guessing this was a loco move either to or from the preserved line.

One was a class 37 in BR blue large logo livery, although thinking about it it could have been 40145, but not sure where that is at the moment. It was coupled up to what looked like a class 55, it was in full BR blue livery. There was also a shunter on the branch to the mainline.

Anyone have anymore information?

That will probably have been 37264 (large logo blue) and 45041 waiting to be moved to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for their diesel gala this weekend.

40145 is undergoing repair at Bury on the ELR at the moment after it's failure on the Stansted tour, so won't be doing anything much for a little while.

Beyond shunters, they've D7541 as a mainline runner, and D5061 for NYMR only. Add an unserviceable 50027 (owner maintained) & D5032 (awaiting major overhaul), plus a 31 borrowed for the year, and that's not a whole lot to play with. A steam heat 37 makes a whole lot of sense, even as a back up for a railway who's core business will only ever be steam.

Especially as I hear that the wendslydale railway were looking to borrow the class 24 for their diesel gala to replace 31271.

It was never a resident, it went for a gala and stayed for a few months after, had a farewell run then went off to Swindon.

I know they weren't resident locos, but with preserved lines often members of their loco fleet are on loan from other lines. I was indeed referring to when 50033 was around, can't remember if 50027 was operational at that point, as despite a few of the locos that were around at that time being non-resident, there were quite a few of them.

The number at the NYMR has always been minimal in comparison to the number at the Midland Railway-Butterley!
