Midland Pullman -route Knowledge?

I am on the Midland Pullman having a lovely day out to Kingswear from Chester. The train is taking 8.5 hours to get from Bangor to Kingswear and 7.5 back. How do they manage this with multiple drivers requiring both traction and route knowledge?

Not sure about the arrangements for this particular service, but I believe for charters where the driver doesnt hold the route knowledge there needs to be a second person who is up to date with route competency in the cab.

Yes, you can run a train with one driver who has the traction knowledge (who will be at the controls) and another who has the route knowledge, giving them information on speeds, signals etc. A lot of the more 'esoteric' railtours are ran in this way.
