Midland Pullman - late running 16/8/24

Anybody know what's up with the Midland Pullman trip to For William today? Seems like it stopped at Doncaster, and slightly north of Doncaster, for nearly 2 combined hours.

As a side note, the trip today isn't the usual Midland Pullman set. It's the first passenger outing for the new, shorter, 2+5 "West Highland Pullman" set. Not the best of starts for the inaugural run!

The train was stopped for the whole time in the platform at Doncaster. We were told that the power car had hit something on the track and that a replacement part had been brought from Crewe. At one point, the plan was take the train to Carlisle and swop the power car but that was abandoned in favour of the repair.

It is clearly not true that a "replacement part had brought from Crewe" - the train was at Doncaster for less than 2 hours - which is less than the time it takes to get there from Crewe. The part clearly wasn't fitted at any other stage of the journey, either.

There were plans at one stage to get a replacement loco, which would have come from Crewe, with the Pullman potentially diverted over the S&C to meet the loco in Carlisle, but due to a variety of reasons it was eventually decided to continue at reduced speed.

To the best of my knowledge there were, and have been, no allegations against the infrastructure or of hitting anything, it was just a traction motor problem.

Looks as though today's Midland Pullman is having problems again. It was 50 minutes late departing Abergavenny and hasn't arrived at Herford yet.
