Midland Metro tickets and busyness

Hi all,

I have two really quick questions about the Midland Metro I could do with answering:

1) What are the (time) restrictions for Cheap Day Return? I cannot find any information about them on the website. Further, are tickets sold by machine or guards? I have a feeling it is the latter but would like to check.

2) How busy are the afternoon services? I would be travelling over the full length of the line both ways at about 1530-1700 if that helps, northbound first then southbound.

Cheap Day return is after 0930 and all day at weekends I believe. The difference is between 20p for one stop and 60p for the whole length.

Tickets are sold by guards or there is a ticket machine at Birmingham Snow Hill opposite the train booking office which also sells them. I'm not sure if the booking offices at Snow Hill, Jewellery Quarter and The Hawthorns can sell them.

Of the day tickets, the nNetwork One Day and nNetwork Daytripper can be bought at rail booking offices as they are also valid on trains. The Metro/Bus ticket can probably be bought at Network West Midlands information centres at New Street Station and Wolverhampton Bus Station. All three can be bought on trams and on buses.

The Metro gets very busy heading towards both cities on weekdays in the morning until 9.30am, and away from them in the evening between say 4pm and 6pm. Stops like Wednesbury Parkway which is half way are well used for commuter park-and-ride to both cities.

As already said - after 09:30 Mon-Fri or anytime Weekends. Sold by our Conductors on board. It's my understanding that the Rail stations are not able to sell Metro only tickets. Combination tickets are available as mentioned already.

Depends on your day of travel? Most weekdays it gets quieter during the day, but after 3pm the schools are out and passenger loading increases once more. Tails off after the evenign rush hour, but we do find that any events going on around our route do affect passenger levels when we least expect it.

The tickets are sold by the conductor, although I believe they are now also sold by the rail TVMs at Snow Hill.
