Midland Metro questions

Hi all,

I recently travelled for the first time on the Midland Metro, with a very short journey between Stephenson Street? (New Street station) and Bull Street.

I have a few questions.

I wanted to buy a £1 ticket (I think it is called "city hop"?) and intended to buy a ticket from the conductor but she was unable to get to me before my stop at Bull Street. I didn't want to stay on the tram any longer because I was unfamiliar with the area of Birmingham further up/down the line. Is there anything I can do to avoid this happening again? Is there anywhere else I can buy a ticket from?

I occasionally travel in the West Midlands area using a West Midlands Day Ranger ticket. Are these accepted on the Midland Metro?

The on-board announcements at Bull Street said something like "leave the tram here for Snow Hill station" - isn't there a separate stop for Snow Hill (the next stop on the line)?

Is there a stop which serves Moor Street station?

Is there a route map available anywhere?

Finally, do the trams always stop at every stop, or do I have to request the tram to stop, like when travelling on a bus?

Snow Hill tram stop (currently) has no easy access to the main station

Apart from standing/sitting closer to the conductor, not that I am aware of.

The Network Westmidland Daytrippers are valid for Tram use.

The walk from Bull Street to Snow Hill is quicker than Snow Hill to Snow Hill. The new Snow Hill tram stop has no interconnection to the train station, though is situated alongside it. Right now it is more useful for some fancy office blocks.

Is there a stop which serves Moor Street station?

No, However there are plans.

Is there a route map available anywhere?

Yes, There are posters at stations and within the trams. I am not aware of any official maps which can be printed or taken from stations.
This is one example which can be found on google images.

They stop at every stop, not sure why the new trams have buttons in... Old ones didn't.

Centraltrains has pretty much covered it but I'll just say that West Midlands Day Rangers aren't valid on the tram - daytrippers are though.

Ticket Machines at all stops not sure if they do city hops or only purchased by conductor West Midlands Ranger accepted on trams, Snow Hill now has it's own stop open 5-6 weeks ago 3 mins walk nearest stop for Moor Street is Corporation Street one stop before Grand Central. Route map available from the travel shop/s in Corporation St or travel centre in New St station in entrance were the tram drops you off at Grand Central they do stop at all stops hope this helps

Any Ticket Office in the West Midlands should be able to sell DayTrippers so a quick walk to the ticket office at New Street might be worth it

I was unaware ticket machines had been re-installed at any stops. Could DK Taylor provide any evidence of these? Perhaps his/her recollection is of the short-lived provision when the line first opened, but as far as I recall, the machines were withdrawn in 2001.

"West Midlands Ranger" is not a known ticket description - as others have pointed out, various Network West Midlands products such as Daytripper and the one-day nNetwork ticket are valid, but the National Rail product known as West Midlands Day Ranger is most certainly not valid on the Metro.

And again, as others have pointed out, the stop named Snow Hill is not the most convenient for Snow Hill 'main line' railway station as the Metro platforms only have access from the opposite side.
