Midland Mainline Shunter

hey all, i was just wondering, is there anybody else on here with a MML 08 shunter, i know they are rare, but i was wondering how rare.

just out of interest, how much would people pay for this model *if* it was being sold on?

nothing in my experience goes for much on ebay, plus you dont know what you are getting. like i got ripped off for my trumpet... got £40, when it was worth £200 second hand!! and it was mint condish!

I think the only Midland Mainline 08s ever made were by Lima, so the chances of picking one up for a reasonable price is pretty good these days.

Keep trying eBay if you want one! Or alternativley, Model Fair sometimes have some. :-P

Whats unfortunate about it being a lima model, Lima Models are amazing if you know how to clean them, My Friend Adrian had 3 swedish diesels all of which were lima, they all struggled to pull anything, then i said to him one day let me have a look at them with a bit of cleaning here and there they run fine now!

Most of my diesels are Lima, they all run fine, its just a case of knowing wat to do with them!

Some Lima models are good on the detailling side of things,they knew how to do a good paint job, at least they could get the green right on the 73 unlike Hornby.

my lima 60 is pretty good, though i do notice all my lima models [3x37, 2x47, 08(questionable over manufacturer), 60] are not very fast, very noisy and make staggery movements at low speeds, but are really powerful compared to a hornby 37.

That's not true, I've seen some very detailed locos from Lima....

my 37's are a lot more detailed than the hornby versions, they have visible fans, better grill detail, horns etc.. compared to the hornby one which just has transfers.

thats why hornby are taking up the lima models.. they were better. and more powerful, my hornby 37 slips on a largish trains, were as the lima ones just keep on going

Thats whats why i was disencouraged to sell my GWR bundle there, but i think it'll take a while to shift that lot.

Bachmann 37s are the best in my opinion, very good runners smooth, powerfull and detailed. Vitrains are close to that but they can be a bit fragile with their detail apparently.

Yes, well lima locos always ara nd always will be noisy its part of the charachter and makes it more realsitc i fink u wouldnt see a 47 going along the mainline on its own on a train dead silent!

My 47 is back in action!

i am right, its the cheap way rather then spending 100 odd quid on a tinny lil speaker! sounds a dam site better if u ask me

This is leading into how DC is better than DCC again isnt it Digital sound decoders use to be granted as a DCC product, well not anymore now that the sound decoders run on DC too! As for the sound of course its not going to sound like the real thing, even if we had tiny sulzar, napier engines etc in theroy they wouldnt sound the same as the real standard gauge stuff either. For what it is in its full capacity i think its brilliant, but that is a reflection on my personal opinion.

yes but answer me this, what is the point in trying to represent the real thing wen u could go on a railtour or a preserved railway and put money towards a good cause of keeping the loco going and get a chance to get the real thing rather then a model one on which the sounds it wrong!

Simple answer really, not everyone is the same, there are less fortunate they wont ever get to go on a railtour or preserved lines often instead the only thing they can do is replicate it and we dont go on railtours all the time and especially in the winter months its nice to stay in and play with trains

its a dam site cheaper to go on a railtour or to a preserved railway then buy a stupid tinny lilttle sound decoder that sounds like the loco is on helium!!!

I have a lima 60, and also a hornby 60. the Hornby one is miles ahead of the lima one on all fronts. and the lima 60 was considered one of their better ones...
