Mid Norfolk Railway said:It is with delight that we are able to confirm that negotiations with Aviator, a UK based aviation fuels company have today reached a lucrative deal with the Mid-Norfolk Railway that will have an unprecedented impact on the operation of our line. The traffic flow will involve loaded trains running in from the north east of England utilising the Mid-Norfolk Railway as the 'missing link' to their new East Anglia fuel terminal close to North Elmham. It is anticipated that up to two trains a day could run over the railway at the height of the contract, which will also see significant improvements to the signalling, permanent way and method of working on the northern part of our line.
General manager for Aviator UK, Rubens Firelli, commented "We are delighted to be working with the MNR on this exciting project. While still in it's infancy, the MNR have been incredibly helpful and I see this being the start of a long and fruitful working relationship."
A start date for the freight flow carrying the non-hazardous chemical "Laprof Ilo-II" - commonly known as glider fuel - is not known at present.
Glider fuel? I wonder how many tankers worth will be carried?
