Sad news this, hope the damage is not too severe though I fear this may not be the case. Suggestions are the shunter inside is the Class 11. On the positive side, at least it sounds like nobody has been injured.

They must be gutted up there, thats there new shed thats just opened, lets hope that the fire was'nt to bad and its mainly smoke damage!

Probably somebody saw the story and decided that was the case, I will wait for a proper source of the damage.

There has been no official line on what/how much was damaged.

All I can tell you is, that the new boiler shop has contained a fire. The outside of the boiler shop appears to be undamaged from pictures seen yesterday. At the time of the fire there was a U Class tender, a Class 11 shunter, a LSWR carriage and a Mk1 carriage. There was a risk of explosion, as the fire spread close to a store containing oxyacetaline torch cylinders.

Any information other than this (unless it is found on the Watercress Line's website, or on a news website is speculation.

Just seen a bit on the BBC local news about it, as far as i can make out the shed is split into two parts, the southern end (closest to Ropley station and the loco shed) looks to be extensively damaged, i can't see anything that was in there having survived, the roof looked like it had caved in and the sides looked buckled (its a metal structure).
The BBC reported the same as on here that there were 2 coaches, a diesel
loco and a tender inside, can't imagine from looking at the tele report that all those items were in the worst affected area so we will have to wait and see what has been damaged.
Still got my fingers crossed that it looks worse than it is.
