Anyone know the story behind this? Was it an April Fools joke?

(for anyone unable to view the photo, it is of a very short Leyland National bus, the entire length consist of one door and one window only. The bus is in red "West Riding" livery and the numberplate was MUA 882P. The photo is undated).

It was a full length Leyland National with West Riding as their 394 back in the day...

Actually this is ex Northern General UUP 829K. The only bit of MUA882P is the registration plate itself!.

MUA was destroyed by fire, where as UUP had been acquired for spares and then cut down

Seem to remember seeing one of these when I lived in S.E. London. It was run by Trotters of Peckham on market days and had another wheel in the centre at the front.

Were Leyland trying to get an Italian contract? The Italians use very short buses in historic centres of cities which have very narrow streets which would be too narrow for something like the smallest Solo. Here's one such example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/39370690@N05/6137838395

I'm not sure if it was cut down as a trainer or as a museum piece, but it ended up as an exhibit in the West Yorkshire Transport Museum. Remember playing on it as a kid when the museum was still at the bottom of Manchester Road.
