I've only watched Monday's so far, although I did notice that as he was leaving Banbury for Leamington(?), the screen behind him said "calling at Banbury..."
I noticed this too but it may just have been due to the system taking a while to update, as they sometimes do.

Just watched him talking to the trainspotters; then as he gets on the train, he says "it's a class 350."

Made me laugh as well!

Also the names of the trainspotters rings a bell in the back of my mind. Maybe one of the people Ian Poole hates? (one of the long list!)

Question. Who watches Portilos 'travelogues with a twist' ?
Just us Anoraks ? - picking out the awful editing - one type of train pulls-up, he then boards another type of train, he be then filmed on-board yet another type of train..! All good fun !

Of course its good fun, the presentation team are not as clued up with cutaways,
Im not an anorak BTW, just an interest in Railways,When Porto mentioned"this is a class 350 train", methinks he was getting his home back at a few:)

To be fair, the continuity has improved with each series!

There's been no complaints about rolling stock so far!

I may be mistaken but one thing I'm sure I spotted was he took the LM from Crewe to Winsford in episode 3, and then finished off the day, rounding up next to an arriving Pendolino at Crewe station again...

Good grief, Stafford station looks as hideous as ever at the end of last night's programme!

Not actually seen it yet, but there's only so much that can be done with a pile of concrete, I guess :P

My parents are quite interested in it - have been throughout the few years of the show, what with the history and such like. I guess that plenty others will be the same.

Agreed. I was rather impressed that having left Stafford, he started episide 3 in Stoke-on-Trent. He was shown on an LM 350/1 and passed through Wedgewood...must be one of the best bits of continuity so far!

Although today it seemed as if they didn't do an aerial shot of a 323, so we'll just pretend that it was a 350 (which of course Michael can now identify) with a different interior ;)

Not sure if this has been mentioned but one clip showed the old BR blue and white/ stock.
On the continental programme, MP got on a Eurostar at STP and put his case on the overhead rack, when leaving the train in Paris, no case.

Nah, I was more impressed with the continuity at Stourbridge - series 1 he'd have got on a PPP then cut to an overhead shot of a Voyager before a 153 arrives at Stourbridge Town ;)

In one of the earlier series, at the end of the program he mentioned next time he would be going to Scarbrough but he boarded a Manchester Airport bound 185, with the display on the platform giving this away :)
Thanks, Sam

Yes I fully agree, I suppose with any series its the same, unless professionals are brought in, perhaps this time they were in to see the 100 hours of filming per issue to make 30 minutes transmission correct. Always difficult to film a cutaway when the 158 has left & a 175 comes along, its a train:)
surprised not of you have mentioned the thousands of parts that make up a steam train, as Porto asked the conductor/Guard.
Mow Cop was interesting, been there several times & its visible from my home on a clear day along with Jodrell Bank.

I wish they would show him inside The Hotels he stays in so we can have a "gawp" at those as well.

This rarely seems to happen !!!

The show is morphing more into a Fred Dibnath style show. I bet he'll do a canal series next! Or Asia by train

I wonder when yesterdays Wimbledon segment was filmed - when he visited the "Home of Tennis" the 2011 Female Champion was on the "Roll of Honour" and commented upon.

As Wimbledon is in June - this must have been early last year

I wonder if he actually stays in them all, particularly the more expensive ones. Film a scene then nip round to the nearby Premier Inn for the night perhaps?

As he was talking about Richmond, there was an aerial shot of railways lines leading into a tunnel, also a flyover (and possibly another disused tunnel).
Where was that?

I think that was the Underground lines outside of Gunnersbury station after the trains have passed the junction where the Overground trains turn off and head for Willesden Junction.

Sorry to go slightly off topic but last night I watched the London-peterbourgh episode with interest as I sign the road but couldn't help but notice nearly all of the shots of trains were going backwards (as in the film had been reversed)? Anyone else noticed this and have they done this in other episodes to? Can't really see any reason why?

A XC train 'arrived' in Whittlesey with the guards head out of the 'front cab' window (complete with tail lights on the 'front'), a 'driverless' 313 arrived heading south in the down (ie northbound) platform arriving into Ali Pali with a red blind in the destination indicator, multiple shots of units heading wrong road (ie running on the right hand side of the railway where as in the UK trains run on the left side if that makes sense) and even a shot at the start of a grand central hst overtaking an FCC unit on the left hand side (the fast lines are to the right of the slows in direction of travel).

Just wondered why they seemed to do this so much-surely they can film trains in both directions?

Sorry for the pretty pointless post but it just annoyed me for some strange reason!

Good programme though.

Yes I noticed all those things too, it did make it appear a bit stupid as a lot of people who watch it would be irritated.

Perhaps the camera they use only goes backwards.

I spotted a few of them as well.

Can't understand why they feel the need to reverse some shots, they would still work if they were played correctly.

Noted he changed at Grimsby Town off an East Midlands for a Northern to the docks, where did this Northern start from, out of interest.

Excellent programme, even SWMBO liked it,

I recall a rail evening at the Flintshire County Council Cinema in Mold a few years ago, the commentator told us some film companies shot a train starting to go backwards on the opposite line to give the correct impression on reversal, a few 1940s films used this technique,Will Hay/Arthur Askey etc.

It would have been working the Cleethorpes - Barton-on-Humber service. Can't remember the journey he took, so not sure of the direction the train would have been traveling in.
