Hi everyone,

I have received a MG11 I was hoping to receive some guidance.

The usual route to this isn’t guarded, and I risked the chance of getting caught.

Because of the officers I bought a ticket on the spot with one stop before, but after being pressured I admitted I was short fare due to confusion.

My reasoning was I hopped on the train before purchasing as the train was about to leave, and I bought a ticket nearest that was available.

I understand I shouldn’t be doing this and I’m really in a difficult position financially. I’m already regretting what I did.

It’s my first time getting issued a MG11, I’m happy to pay for the fees. Has anyone been in the same situation, and how did the resolved this?

From the other threads I’ve seen waiting for the letter and respond,
and my planned action is to apologise and pay the fares as soon as possible.

Should I respond by email or letter? Would they delay my response after 21 days, and if so would my fares be affected?

I really appreciate anyone giving me advice.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

While you're waiting for the pros to arrive, it would be helpful to see the MG11 please, so they can see the exact situation. Make sure you obscure your personal details and any reference numbers.

You will just have to wait until you receive the letter from the relevant operator. I'm guessing as your location is Woolwich, that will either be Thameslink or South Eastern depending on who caught you.

The letter they will send you (which it is vital to receive and respond to) but also check e-mail and spam will tell you how you can respond

I am not sure what you mean by this - can you clarify? their letter will tell you how long you have to reply - if you miss that deadline it risks the matter being escalated to court prosecution which I imagine you wish to avoid.

So that's the true version

Neither version is likely to convince anyone - don't put anything like that in your reply to the letter when it comes.

Loads of people try to cheat the railway. When they are found out, the train company will most likely investigate their travel history, and this may affect the amount it costs in settlement. They are most interested in stopping the cheating, and second in getting some money back.

However, if you engage with the process, you will almost certainly be able to persuade them to settle out of court. Expect to pay the full fare for your travel plus an admin sum.

Please come back for more advice when you hear from them - it may be several weeks.
