Hello,

Just to inform, I received a letter from Southern this morning stating intention to prosecute but final settlement available for £35.

Am glad they didn't take too long to write as lack of sleep has made me ill and I've got an exam next week.

So I will pay that on Monday. After my exams, I'm going to find out more about what is being done to roll out Oyster/Electronic payment on a joined up nationwide basis, but for now i need to focus on variances - deep joy.

Thanks to all here who have replied and helped to clarify things for me - your input has been invaluable. Thank goodness for the internet (as i find myself saying fairly often).

Now i've found this RailUK Forums I'll stick around as it's quite interesting to me anyway.

One positive thing that has come out of this is that I have made inroads in to getting a diagnosis for Aspergers and now have the name of someone to assess me for strengths and weaknesses (in relation to academic/occupational issues).

So all's well that ends well.

Indeed. Genuinely happy for you that it is now sorted, and I think you have done really well to resolve the matter for £35.

Glad that you found the forum useful.

I'm glad it's worked out for you and hasn't proven too expensive a mistake. Good luck for your exams.

£35 seems to be the going rate at Southern if they send out a letter for an unpaid fare

When I rang to pay it, they reduced it to £20, they said, because I'd contacted them so quickly.
