--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
It's nice to hear that you're enjoying it Redhotip.I also start training in late January so if you have any more good information and advice then please share it as it will help me sleep:D.
Congratulations on passing.:D

All i'd say is don't worry about it,I know its easy to say but if you put the work in and you can take instruction you should be fine. The other bit of advice id give is not to get ahead of yourself just take one hurdle at a time and keep on your toes.
Everyone in our group all have the same attitude and are really enjoying the training so that will help if you get a similar bunch.
If its what you want to do you'll be fine good luck.

Hey everyone who's through and started, I was just wondering how long you had to wait for your medicals? I know I'm probably just being impatient, but it's getting on for 4 weeks since I got my letter now, so I'm itching to get it out the way.

Oh and cheers for all the 'well dones' on the last page btw guys. Really looking forward to it :)

This is how it all came together for me.
May be worth giving HR a call.

They beat me to it in the end last week. I've had my start date brought forward to Feb 27th, pending the outcome of my medical this Friday. I'm just crossing everything now for the medical, as it feels like the last hurdle. I'm 99% sure I shouldn't have anything to worry about, but sod's law states this is the point I find out I have seriously high blood pressure or something else bad and lose out on the job to boot! (Ever the optimist here, lol).

So how are people who have started now finding the training? :)

I know what you mean about the medical but I'm sure you'll be fine! Had my 1st day today and it's pretty cool to suddenly say to yourself "I am a trainee train driver!" Good luck!

I had my medical yesterday and passed :D I'm just waiting on a contract through the post. It's quite exciting to think I'll be starting training in 4 weeks :)

Just for info for anyone else, the medical consisted of weight and height check, a hearing test, eyesight test, colourblindness test, blood pressure check, urine drugs test and an alcohol breathalyser.

I am meant to be working for Metrolink.

I don't quite understand why it has taken over 5 months for Metrolink to get back to candidates....They haven't bothered to give us clear timeframes on when training starts.

I have had my medical in late Jan but haven't heard back since..

I have since applied for other jobs since (Northern Rail Trainee driver). I really hope I pass through to the next round.

Guess it's to do with the delays in opening new lines, no point training drivers sadly if there's nowhere for them to drive!

Other new entrants courses are also a little delayed. Genuinely believe they are hanging back for the delayed expansion, which is understandable.

Neither here, nor there, but somewhere in-between!
Well they are just about to start the February round of driver recruitment. I was on the tram yesterday and there's posters saying it starts 20th Feb for one week only.

I will be applying again, as the HR lady said I should, as I failed on the last round on the dials test!

I too might send a cheeky application in as I also failed. I passed the dials test but was apparently 2 questions away on the trainability. HR did say I need to wait for 6 months though, but I can re-apply again sooner if I state I failed in December.

I was 1 or 2 questions away from the pass mark of 18 on the dials test (with all correct tho), but passed the trainability!

They said we could apply again the Feb; but they would put us right to the back of the group, so the 6 months can pass, so were looking at a May assessment! everything seems to take SOOOOOO long in the railway industry these days!:D

For me it was:

The day goes as follows: Turn up, show your driving licence etc, then straight outside, to see if you can climb into a tram from the ground, (if you cant that's it your gone there n then) then it's into the assessment room for the Dials test, Train-ability for Rules test, (i failed at that stage) but afterwards its, SCAAT test, basic maths & English test, then if you make through that lot, a drive of a tram & Structured interview.

Aim to get over 18 & above for the dials test, that's were I went wrong, I got 17! but passed the TRT.

Good luck!

Me. I applied but I haven't heard anything either way. I check the mail every day in hope that I've made an assessment day but I never hear anything. I'm guessing that I didn't make it.

I could be wrong but most rejections were sent out by e-mail earlier from what I can gather. Maybe no news is good news....

I phoned Metrolink HR earlier, ive applied for the PSR vacancy. Initially when i rang the lady assumed i was enquiring about the driver vacancies. The impression i was left with for drivers is that its a continual year round recruitment and they will just contact as and when assesments are available.
PSR roles still not shortlisted.
