Driver. I'm a conductor myself, my mate has just told me and am just trying to get some info. He says that he has been sent no practice material either.

Driver assessments for metrolink are.
•SCAAT
•Dials test
•One of the written ones (GLOP?) can't remember.
• A metrolink specific English and maths test.
Wouldn't say easy at all.
Doesn't count towards one of your train driver strikes either.

On the day, if you pass the written tests, you are also asked to climb into a tram, and drive it at slow speed around the depot, to monitor how you follow verbal instructions... *to the letter*

We had a memory test, SCAAT and dials, no English or maths. This was only 10 weeks ago so can't see it having changed.
The tests are nothing to worry about and the interview is relaxed too. I went for the job in August and was offered a position on Octobers course. But I was also offered a guards job at a TOC. For me to be honest there was no contest between tram driver and guard. I chose the guards job.

I'm not quite sure how the role of a conductor or LRV driver can be compared.
To be honest that is my own opinion. Of course everyone is different and if you have been a guard for so many years maybe your ready for something else.
