Metrolink & Amex

Metrolink is perhaps an outlier in that it runs a CMEV scheme in the UK which is Visa & Mastercard only (happy to be corrected if there are others) is there a reason why Amex isn’t an accepted payment?

The GetMeThere app used to allow Amex payments previously however that was discontinued. Is it a case of just waiting until the Greater Manchester PAYG project kicks off that Amex will be added then?

To be honest, unless you have a particularly bad deal with your merchant acquirer this is somewhat a myth these days for large organisations.

Very often the fees are at parity with Visa and MC, or negligibly different.

That said, MetroLink isn't unique here - whilst we don't have tap-in-tap-out contactless payments, Amex isn't accepted by Tyne and Wear Metro.

A generic answer as expected, I guess the question I wonder is when the PAYG scheme rolls out they should then accept Amex as it is a valid method of payment on the National Rail network, anyone aware if the TfW scheme accepts Amex I can’t see this on the website.
