Hello everyone, is there any chance someone in the know could post a regular update on which of the older Metro's are in service that particular day please.

There don't appear to be any metrocars out today, unless there are a pair on T133.

4081+4015 were out earlier on T132 but have been replaced by the 555 that was previously on T133, so they may have swapped.

With fewer diagrams on a Sunday we've pretty much got to the point where they can all be covered with 555s.

Thank you for the helpful information, they're definitely thin on the ground, do you think this week's engineering work between St James and Shiremoor will affect things?

I wouldn't be surprised - there will be (I think 4) fewer diagrams on the yellow line so I'd suspect that the number of metrocars will not be great during that time. Theoretically there are enough 555s operational to cover all the diagrams now but I don't think we'll see that for a little while yet.

Thank you again for the information, it's hard for me to find out what's going on.

There are ten metrocars parked up at Howden Depot this afternoon, all with pantographs up but guess they are stranded due to the works going on between St James and Shiremoore via Whitley Bay.

Have been out on both the green and yellow lines today and only seen the 555s in operation. Could this be the first day of only 555s operating?

Thank you for this info, hopefully it's just for this week. Edit.. should have asked, is it ten units or ten pairs of units?

They were all moved there over the weekend to clear space at Gosforth during the works. The plan is that the service will be 555s only during this week with the reduced diagrams. There was an issue yesterday with standing water on the tracks that affects metrocars more than 555s due to their lower electrical equipment.

Ten individual units. Five roads with two on each.
Two for disposal this week (87 and 90), remaining eight just to free up space at Gosforth for the week.

List in the opening post being updated now, quite a few changes since the last update.

With the first of the new Stadler units already being at Gosforth, the second unit en-route to Gosforth, and the announcement that the first Metrocar will enter preservation in the next few months, I’ve created this thread to keep track of the outgoing Metro fleet over the next 2 years as it’s withdrawn and units are preserved, scrapped or converted for other uses.

I’ve created a fleet list which I’ll keep updated.

The fleet situation is very fluid, with changes taking place often several times a week.

Key:
Green
- operational
Red - withdrawn
Orange - not operational, may return to service in the future
Blue - Under attention
Purple - non passenger use
Grey - removed from Nexus property but survives
Strikethrough - Scrapped
Units marked with * did not undergo the 2010-2015 Wabtec refurbishment, instead receiving corrosion repairs and RVAR mods at Gosforth between 2018-2020. They were not compatible with the wider fleet in service, however could run together empty. All of these units are now withdrawn.
Units marked with = did not receive the new male auto announcements in 2014-2015 and retain the previous female auto announcements. Announcements are controlled by the leading unit, the announcements installed on the leading unit will play through the full formation.

4001* - Preserved at North Tyneside Steam Railway. Left Gosforth by rail 10/09/2025 hauled by 4056+4069. Withdrawn 18/04/2021

Just five Metrocars remain theoretically available for service this week during the line closure, these are 4024, 4026, 4041, 4078 and 4079. All Metro services are planned to be 555 operated during the line closure so Metrocars will only appear in service this week if for whatever reason there ended up not being enough serviceable 555s to run the timetable. Metrocars are planned to return to service on Saturday 21st Feb, this will likely include some of the units that are available at Gosforth, as well as units that are currently stored at Howdon.

Returning to service is nice to hear, even if it's not long to the end. Do you know if there will be a farewell run at the end?

We must be close to the end for Metrocars considering some of the posts above suggest it's regularly to only have one or two pairs out in service at a time? Have Nexus nominated a date (and anything to commemorate/celebrate the end?)?

Nothing as yet publicly announced. When I was there they did have plans for a special final service but I fully imagine things have changed in the last 2 years.

Two metrocar sets out on the Green today (26+79, 24+41). We're clearly not at the point quite yet (even after the engineering work) where the metrocars are being retired.
