Hi all,

My friend has noticed that there are now metal trays between the tracks at Manchester Victoria station, and was wondering what they were there for. My suspicion is that it might be something to do with the lack of retention tanks on some of the rolling stock, and the need to deal with the... well, outflow - does anyone have any better suggestions?

Assuming it's London Victoria, I'm surprised there are any trains using it regularly that don't have retention tanks. Surely the 455's are the oldest trains using the station regularly now.

does say Manchester Victoria although this may have been edited. I don't believe anything that serves MCV has retention tanks? (142,144, 150, 153, 155, 156, 158, 185, soon to be 319s) possibly 185s do actually?

The 455s don't even have toilets, let alone retention tanks

Ah thanks, I may have misread. Almost everything at Man Vic flushes on the track!

158 & 185 are fitted with retention tanks.

Platform 2 at Swansea has something very similar - although they're not troughs, they're actual drains.

Platform 2 is most commonly used (during normal off-peak patterns) by FGW HSTs - they spend around 45 minutes in the hour at this platform having their tanks filled and otherwise being turned round.

With the exception of the 175s, there isn't anything else calling at Swansea which has retention tanks fitted, but apart from the 2-hourly Swanline and a handful of Pembroke Dock and HoW trains, nothing else has lengthy spells in platforms.
