Stone slabbed roof? I've never heard of that before in a property of that age.
It was thus so as it was originally a replacement property constructed for the estates offices of the Adlington Hall estate and was deemed to be thus so in the deeds of the property, in order to retain the image of the property it replaced that was lost to fire in 1809.
I have sent a PM to you regarding this (and two other matters) about the history of the building that was there before the 1809 fire.
