Quick question on the Merseyrail Saveaway: Could I buy the Saveaway All Areas ticket from Chester station? Because that is my nearest point to the Merseytravel area and this leaflet says that you can buy your saveaways from "All staffed rail stations in Merseyside and as far as Ellesmere Port and Ormskirk", but misses out the bit to Chester. Do you think I could buy a Saveaway All Areas ticket from Chester Station?

As far as I recall, Saveaways can't be purchased at Chester as it's not a Merseyrail station.
The Day saver can be bought there, but this only covers the rail network & not the buses & ferries.
An all zones saveaway is valid to Chester on rail only, (not valid on buses beyond the M53/A41 junction which is the county boundary.

Unless the situation has changed since I last tried to do the same thing last autumn, I concur that the answer is no.
You'd think, being valid there, the ticket office would sell them. But they don't.
Clearly it must be beyond the wit and wisdom of Merseytravel and ATW (which staffs Chester) to arrange such a revolutionary concept as selling a ticket that's valid from the station.
You can buy the scratch-off Saveaways in advance from the various Merseytravel travel centres, ferry ticket offices etc, so if when you do reach one you're prepared to shell out in advance and hang onto a ticket (they are one of the cheapest of their kind I've come across - especially as they're cheaper even that just buying a return on the ferry) you could get one for next time and avoid having the problem again.

£4.50. It's a day ticket for the Northern line and The Wirral lines that is valid on all trains after 09:30. Although, to confuse you it has the word 'Single' printed on it.

I thought since the Saveaway tickets went over to be printed on standard Rail tickets, and effectively being a 'Rover' ticket, that it should be possible to purchase them from Chester station, even though it is not operated by Merseyrail?

They certainly are available at Chester. You could buy at any staffed UK station.
I have successfully bought an all zones Saveaway from Milton Keynes Central. IIRC it's isssued as a One Day Ranger called MTRAV SAVEAWAY ALL AREAS. It didn't take them very long to find it.

Just to clarify, a "Rover" should be valid for more than one day (3 or more days, I believe) and a "Day Ranger" is valid for one day only. So this should effectively be a "Ranger" rather than a "Rover".
One of the key differences is that a "Rover" is normally a "leisure pass valid for 3 or more days" that can be more beneficial than a "Day Ranger" when combining tickets in accordance with the National Rail Conditions of Carriage.

Interestingly, rangers are printed with "Rail Rover" in large front where "Single" or "Two-Part Return" are usually printed.
I've not seen this, but the system is such a joke that it wouldn't surprise me. Confusion and lack of consistency rules! However the only rangers I can recall getting have said "ONE DAY RANGER" (e.g. Wayfarer) or "SINGLE" (e.g. Red Dot Day). If you have got a ranger that says "RAIL ROVER" then would suggest it is a mistake, just as "SINGLE" is a mistake. I recall one of the Red Dot Days (Corby?) was issued as a "2-PART RETURN"! (oops!)

The Lancashire and Cheshire Day Rangers printed by Avantix Mobile have had this feature, in addition to "Issued At: *Blank Space*.

So does it have a name section, which isn't filled in properly on issuing?
The name of the customer can be entered in the "Issued to:" field at the time of issuing but is optional.
