Not really an end to end train to Edinburgh though, would take longer than it does already.

I think there could well be a market for North Wales to Liverpool. Certainly North East Wales has got ties to the Merseyside region (with Liverpool being our nearest major city), so I think that there would be a market for a direct service; I'm going to go ahead even suggest an hourly service would be viable. Yes, you can change at Chester onto Merseyrail, but it's slow and the connections aren't always great.

Although, I'm just looking at NE Wales here - going past Llandudno may well reduce your benefits.

I think Wrexham is the most likely, as an eventual extension of the planned Liverpool-Chester Halton Curve service. ATW, or successor, will initially have a service wholly within England, which will be fun.

Liverpool - Bradford. Bad idea until (or if) Calder Valley is electrified. It will just effectively replace a Liverpool - Manchester emu by a (smaller) dmu under the wires.

It isn't a bad idea for those of us like me who look forward to using it. Connections between Bradford and Liverpool at Victoria are very poor in the evenings and the 70 mile journey can take 2.5 to 3 hours.

Through trains should be run to benefit passengers and should not be cut just because people object to diesel trains running on electrified lines. Liverpool already suffers from a number of electric services having to stop at or near the country boundary, forcing passengers to change at places like Bidston, Kirkby, Ellesmere Port and Ormskirk.

If they get the timetable right the Liverpool-Edinburgh could provide Manchester-Edinburgh journeys in hours with no through train via Preston, thereby relieving those heavily-used trains. Some people may also use it end to end to avoid the change of trains, and especially if TPE offers some good ticket prices.
