It's also unclear if you need to print the ticket or if showing it on a phone screen will suffice.

On the point above, Merseyrail now have a news item on their website which confirms you can show it on your phone.

Once purchased, the tickets will be sent to the passenger direct via email where they can be either printed out or shown via their mobile phone.

Does the tvm at meols cop allow ticket collection for online bookings?

I tried using the Northern app to buy a ticket for collection. Meols Cop was not listed as one of the stations at which it could be collected.

I don't think this strange PDF own ticket thing is progress. I wouldn't even describe it as user friendly.

Naturally the councillor who leads on transport gives it his thumbs up!

The area needs city-centric rezoning, as per Manchester, and those dumb cards thrown on the scraphead and replaced by contactless. Adding another oddity to the current mess won't help move the area towards that.
