I travelled from Birkenhead North to Hoylake yesterday evening.
It was noticeable how quickly the hustle alarm sounded after door opening and had me thinking as to whether any passenger was being given time to actually leave the train if they were not already at the doors.
This was confirmed by the fact that the barriers lifted at Hoylake after the train had departed, which in 99% of the cases they stay down as the West Kirby departure is due to arrive at Hoylake.
I checked on realtime trains and the service left Hoylake 2 minutes early, which on a 15 minute journey is quite an effort!
The train wasn't busy, but the guard/driver hadn't walked through the train and had only joined the train a few minutes before departure as they change staff at Birkenhead North. Unless there is CCTV of each carriage providing a live feed then there is no way whether the train crew could ascertain if any passengers had limited mobility, prams or pushchairs, heavy luggage etc.
is there a standard time that should be permitted?
