Hi

My Partner went to Manor Road station yesterday to renew a monthly rail pass that has expired a week ago with the new commencement date being Monday 9th February. There has been a gap due to holidays. She was told at Manor Road that she could only renew the pass the day before. Is this correct?

Thanks

JK

According to Merseyrail's guide to season tickets,
You can renew a weekly or monthly ticket up to three days before it runs out. You can renew an annual ticket up to seven days before it runs out. Term Time Tickets are available a few weeks before the term starts but are not valid until the start of term.
Railpass tickets can only be issued after 12 noon on the day before the start date or after 12 noon on the Friday if it expires on a Monday, or on a Tuesday if the Monday is a Bank Holiday.
I think buying in advance would be covered in the latter paragraph.

From a retailing "rules" point of view, it's only treated as a renewal if there's no gap between one ticket expiring and the new one starting.

This doesn't affect Passenger's Charter discounts, for those TOCs that still work under the old scheme, where a renewal within 28 days still qualifies.
