It will need to be soon given that the process of withdrawing the 507/508's is about to step up a notch.Any decision on when and where a wirral service will start ?
Six gone in a matter of weeks...It's been reported the next units going for scrap will be 508127 and 507005 in 2 weeks, followed by 508138 and 507009 a couple of weeks later. 508126 and 507026 will be going 2 weeks after that.
There is going to be a delivery of 3 777's every 3/4 weeks from early August.
And 508 128 is on the Fazakerley shorts so they're not quite ready to give up the route yet!507 005 is on the 1226 Moorfields-Chester for anyone that needs it (13/7)
Need to get the Open golf out of the way first, I would have thought. It will need to be soon given that the process of withdrawing the 507/508's is about to step up a notch.
I've been out getting some rides in this evening, managed to get rides on 127 and 138 which was nice as their time is nearly up. 111 was at North when we went past but was gone on the return, managed a ride on it on Chesters late this eve.507s/508s seen on 13/7. Hope may be of interest.

Only 1 shoe needs to be in contact with the conductor rail, as is standard on all new DCCR units nowadays. Is each bogey powered separately...or do only 1 set of shoes need to be in contact with the live rail to provide traction to the whole train?
Services from Liverpool will switch to battery mode at Fazakerley.Since I posted my original thought / question, I have now noted two things at Kirkby, the 3rd rail remains more or less half way up the platform and also seen a new platform sign to remind drivers 'check emu mode' (on Class 777's). Clearly that Class 777's will use 3rd rail power to / from Kirkby after all.
Please forgive my ignorance, but what does DCCR stand for?Only 1 shoe needs to be in contact with the conductor rail, as is standard on all new DCCR units nowadays.

Services from Headbolt Lane will switch to 3rd rail mode at Kirkby.

Ah, brilliant! Thank youDirect Current Conductor Rail
I have heard either next Sunday evening, 30th July or the following Sunday, 6th August.Any clue when the next Merseyrail scrap drag to Newport is due to be?
Just a general question, why would it be 508127 last day of service and then ECS to Kirkdale, surely it would go to Birkenhead North (to remove parts etc) as that is the location it would go from to Newport?Could anyone confirm if today (Tuesday 25th July) is the final day for 508127 in passenger service.
It's working on the New Brighton line until early evening, then heading ECS to Kirkdale depot.
508127 is among the next few units due for withdrawal and scrapping.Just a general question, why would it be 508127 last day of service and then ECS to Kirkdale, surely it would go to Birkenhead North (to remove parts etc) as that is the location it would go from to Newport?
Sounds like 508127 has worked its last service.508127 is among the next few units due for withdrawal and scrapping.
The ECS move (5D39) from New Brighton in the evening, often goes onto form an ECS move from Kirkdale depot to Birkenhead North depot (5B87 or 5B88) later the same evening.
It is rare to have a planned ECS move direct from New Brighton to Birkenhead North depot in the early evening, however this evening the planned 5D39 move ran to Birkenhead North depot instead.

Or rail replacement buses beckonAs the withdrawals continue surely we need some more 777s to pick up services otherwise it will not look good in a few weeks
I was on the one behind. Stranded at St Michaels, fortunately, not midway between. It will be happening more and more as these old trains conk out.Northern Line problems this morning. From Merseyrail::
"Due to a broken down train at Brunswick the Southport and Hunts Cross line is disrupted. Disruption is expected until 10:45 26/07. Impact: Train services to Hunts Cross will be terminated at and started back from Liverpool Cntrl Northern."
So that leaves a gap of roughly an hour in Southport-bound services from Liverpool central.
Do you know what unit you was on?I was on the one behind. Stranded at St Michaels, fortunately, not midway between. It will be happening more and more as these old trains conk out.
No I don't look at numbers. Sorry.Do you know what unit you was on?
It looks as though it was 507031 which failed.
The unit behind went to rescue it. Both are currently on Kirkdale depot, just passed them now.
