I would it be better for the train to stop over at Litchurch Lane, drop off 001 and then continue to Newport with 029?
Given the loco comes from Derby to start off with you'd think ROG could be convinced if they were wishing to be helpful to drag them to Newport then just drag 001 back to Derby when it's returning to its base

I know that there are a few people on the MerseyRailways 2.0 Facebook group fear that 001 would be scrapped by mistake!

Considering that Angel would have clearly stated to Unimetals that 029 is the unit to be scrapped and 001 is to be set aside for transportation by road!

I know this is outwith the topic but it will reassure folk; the three preserved Class 365 carriages went to the Newport scrapyard first before they were taken by road to their new home

So did the 2 507 coaches that went to the fire training place near Aintree.

Indeed

I know that this may be off-topic... Do you think that 507001 could meet 313201 at the Railway 200 event next year?

If we can discuss simms . Are they just a chopping crushing plant or do they have environmental standards and strip the carriages of rubber glass wire hydraulics and lighting etc . Would this be in merseyrail electrics environment policy on recycling ?

Merseyrail's environment policy on recycling is utterly irrelevant. Merseyrail don't own them and are not disposing of them.

Merseyrail don’t own the 507s, the leasing company owns them

Ok my question still stands on simms do they strip the trains of stuff first.

There was a documentary years ago and It showed that while everything just goes in one end, the machinery is able to separate the different types of metals, plastics, wood etc at the other end.

The bogies are removed and cut by hand, from photos it doesn't look like they go through the shredder.

Not for sensitive eyes, here's some of the remains of the class 319s bogies for reference!

I'd just like to say a big thank you to all the gen posters for their input both in this and the TOPS threads; it definitely isn't said enough. The gen proved invaluable in maximising the last few months of service of the 507s so thanks a million. Hopefully a few of my posts over the years were useful to some too.

Never forget, if you want to ride a PEP one last time, go to Waterloo and ride a 455/7 (presuming it isn't shortformed.. ;))

It is quite remarkable really that a highly ordinary family of trains have ended up having a quite extraordinary career, their longevity being such that they’re *still* not quite gone yet.

If someone had said back in the 2000s that the family would outlive both the 317s *and* 365s, *and* even run some Elizabeth Line branded services in the process, then I’d have thought them to be mad, but here we are.

Nonetheless it is a shame that the Merseyrail units seem to have faded away, even notwithstanding the farewell tours. Unless Merseyrail have a surprise up their sleeve, but it does seem unlikely.

507029 and 507001 noted inside the shed at North today having shoe gear etc removed in preparation for their one way trip. (Well, 029s one way trip anyway)

003 and 023 appear to be intact for now.

Isn't 001 going to run on the 3rd rail at Derby? Are they going to have to put the shoes back on?
I suspect the issue is that if the shoes were left on for the move to Newport, they wouldn’t still be on by the time it got to south Wales!

Dragging them with their steps and shoe gear on takes them out of guage for off network moves so they're always removed before they leave, I'd imagine they'll be refitted at Derby!

Glad I got a final ride on a 507 on what turned out to be the penultimate day of service. I remember riding on them when they were new, when they seemed so futuristic compared to every other train running in the north of England at the time. 46 years service ain’t bad.

It was the “gen” on this thread that got me my final ride. Where better place to express my gratitude so those who provided it see it? Thanks everyone.

Trawling through Railforums for will be remembered by posterity as a classic part of early 2020s bashing, having replaced however people got gen before (I'm not old enough to have bashed before the internet). I reckon in a few years' time someone will have coded an A.I. that predicts what will turn up where to a high degree of accuracy based on past movements.
