Merseyrail Guard

Hi

I will shortly be joining merseyrail as a guard in January and still have doubts due to recent press about going driver only trains in 5 years. What should I do?

Ignore the press. If they go driver only (not concrete) then you'll get redundancy money to compensate. And you'll have 5 years work experience which will come in handy in the future. What else can you do?

Sorry if this seems unfair to the OP, but do Merseyrail guards have to do much more other than doors? I've seen a couple check tickets but they aren't commercial so there seems relatively little point!

If you want a career in the rail industry this is a good opportunity, and you can use the experience to progress to being a Train Driver or a Train Manager (e.g. for Virgin Trains).

That is true to be fair, it is a relatively easy step into the rail industry!

Thanks guys, I am gonna go think it would be silly of me not to. Will get what I need from that could even end up driver in 5 years if not will look round at other tocs northern, virgin etc...
