So that basically means the 777's will not be working on the Southport routes for the time being once in service
No it's has most stuff on. Mainly it's is oilsBeing a relative newbie when it comes to scrapping the 507/8 . Is it stripped of seats hydraulics lights etc and just a portacabin on wheels when it leaves on the bidston line to where ?
What day will the move take place to take them from Birkenhead North depot. I have heard mention of this Sunday? Will the route appear on RTT?Yes they are being scrapped, however some 507s will be retained for a couple of years while they lengthen the platforms on the Southport lines. The first two units go next week and all are being scrapped at Newport. Angel are keeping the original name plates fitted to the 508s so you might be able to contact them and buy one.
I'm assuming that we will see some 4-car 777s on the Southport line off-peak?The 777’s aren’t too long for the platforms. The passenger door arrangement is such that an 8 car will fit anywhere a 6 car 507/8 will.
The issue with the 777s is that they at ever so slightly long enough to foul the points and track circuits at a small number of locations, and at other locations the cab is closer to the home signal. Network rail need to move some signals and track circuits to allow 8 cars to run. Southport *might* need more work due to the layout, but this isn’t a platform length issue. A lot of these snags were already planned for when the door layout was chosen as the best compromise.
I am not sure, but I don't think they fit on some of the platforms . The new trains are slightly longer. They could just have selective doors open at the smaller platforms are not stop there so there are options on that line. I think the 507s will just be on that line as 6 cars for peak time as 8 can't currently be used

Without going off topic, I wonder what the score will be regarding strengthened trains on the Southport line of a weekend during the Summer season and December? Enough legacy units retained for this to resume when the 777s are introduced?

How come the plan is to retain some 507s units, why 507? I would say more 508 units have been overhauled over the past year compared to 507 units.
Surely units being retained would be based on those which have recently been overhauled rather than just class?
508s are only lifed until 2023 ish because of sole bar corrosion, 507s don't have this issue so it's less work in the future if they had to stay longer than anticipated
777005I'm assuming that we will see some 4-car 777s on the Southport line off-peak?
What is going on with the testing at the minute. I have seen very little over the past few weeks? And it's the 16th they go I believe
777005 was meant to run Sunday and Monday but this has now been cancelled for the time being, it will only be announced on Sunday day
Each unit when it arrives goes through commisioning. What is going on with the testing at the minute. I have seen very little over the past few weeks?
One new unit did come out (I think it was Monday), went to kirkby and then straight back to Kirkdale depot?
I thought I heard that 777006 was suppose to be out testing this week now that the graffiti issue had been sorted? Each unit when it arrives initially goes through commisioning. They wouldnt use 006 because of the graffiti so there was nothing to test. The unit that did a quick run to Kirkby was to test the latest software and hardware update worked correctly
Yes.I thought I heard that 777006 was suppose to be out testing this week now that the graffiti issue had been sorted?
So from your previous post, 777005 might still be out on Sunday and Monday but won't know until on the day, is that what you meant here?

No different design.Seems sensible move to do update first.
Any particular reason why 508s have solebar corrosion issues and 507s don't?
YesPath appeared in Realtime Trains for tomorrow evening. 5T77 1918 Kirkdale CS to Kirkdale CS via Hunts Cross, Kirkby, Ormskirk and Southport. A 777 test run? https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/S90161/2020-08-16/detailed
Has it been confirmed yet whether 5T77 is running today?Yep and as I said, Southport Sunday . It will only be confirmed tomorrow though, paths have been put in ready. I don't think it will happen
Has it been confirmed yet whether 5T77 is running today?
What makes you think it will not run?
Test has been cancelled. Monday's Wirral test also looks very unlikely. Would have liked to have seen how the units performed running during 507 service
Both this and Mondays tests have been cancelled I heard? That is a real shame as there is plenty of leeway with Sundays only having an hourly service currently! 5T77 still showing in bold on RRT as well.
I know I may be being a bit dim here, but can someone confirm that what we're talking about here are 777s running in between public services, without public access? Rather than the first new train or two being tried out with a chance for the public (us) to use it?Both this and Mondays tests have been cancelled. These will probably happen same times next week. Sunday is the only day northern lines can be completed

ThanksYes.
YesObviously they are being cautious there's probably insurance reasons as well as if anything goes wrong with passengers on board during testing would be a massive negative PR as people complain more than they praise, the Echo would have a field day filling columns of stranded passengers train failures etc.
Liverpool Echo:
"New train fiasco, passenger stuck on board for hours miles from help"
"Major panic on failed new train, Peter from Kirkby fainted, Granny from Southport has panic attack"
Facebook:
"Scrap the new trains, waste of money waa waaa waa etc"
Better to be later and get it right first time than to play catch up.
There are group standards that do not allow passengers to be on trains that have not been certified for public use. That is why there are also only limited staff on the test train. There is also need need for public to be on it as the current fleet are still running to the time table. The 777 will stop at each station but won't open doors and will Have them all locked out of use .
