Just a quick question regarding the Merseyrail City Line.

This line seems to be operated by Northern despite the fact it shows as part of the Merseyrail network on their website.

What does that mean for the validity of Merseyrail daysaver tickets? Are they valid on these services?

No, the branding is actually a bit of a mess.

But a Saveaway will do the same thing including the City Line services (and more) for an extra 10p.

There's some information about day saver here. It doesn't say what an area is, though.

Merseyrail claim here that Day Savers are better than Saveaways if you only need to travel by rail, but it all depends on where you intend to go.

That map is actually on the old site though, this is the one on the current MerseyRail site:
http://www.merseyrail.org/_common/map/networkmap.htm

That shows the City Line as being part of the network.

This:

Suggests that West Allerton (for example) is in the same area as the city center stations are.

Which would suggest that the cheapest day saver would cover this:
http://www.merseyrail.org/tickets-passes/daily-travel/day-saver.aspx

However the day saver says it's for all Merseyrail station in that area, but the city line is fully operated by northern....

For the sake of 10p, I think it is worth it to buy a Saveaway instead of risking a potential argument.

Another question:
The City line is on the ground level Liverpool Lime Street isn't it that is still open? not the closed underground?
