The only guarantee is more 777s available to be used when Headbolt lane opens, and the battery units will finally be used, freeing up the normal units from the Kirkby line.
Can the battery units not be used on electrified line? If they can't, they're going to have a job doing Headbolt Lane - Liverpool Central, or wherever it is they're going to be running to.

I'm not really sure what you're asking there, the /1s will need to use the 3rd rail to charge, and will likely rejoin to the 3rd rail at Kirkby, only running Kirkby - Headbolt Lane on battery (for now)

My point was, you don't have to wait for Headbolt Lane opening before the BEMU 777s become usable, 'MattRat' (above) implied that you did. They are bound to be used on non-battery duties at times, otherwise it wouldn't be possible to justify seven units for three/four diagrams.

I should add, I think that seven BEMUs will prove insufficient and that further units will be converted to battery in due course. It will be useful for units to be able to be transferred between routes if necessary.

If Merseyrail agreed with you, the battery units would already be running on the network. Maybe it is illogical, but it is what's happening.

I think the point was that Headbolt Lane can’t be served until the /1s are accepted, and that will create a bump of multiple new units for the existing accepted units to become “spare” and can be used on whatever line is next. Or as 8 car units when pigs gain wings ;)
