I was wondering if figures are available for the Male/Female split of Rail Uk Members.

My hunch would be AT LEAST 95% Male....

Any advance on that figure.

On a more jocular note - when did the wearing of an anorak cease to be a pre- requisite in order to obtain membership ?

Well, bearing in mind that gender isn't compulsory information on here, I doubt you'd get an accurate figure.

As for the second part - anoraks haven't been that common since the 60s amongst rail enthusiats (or indeed anyone) - a stereotype I hate.

Gender isn't compulsory - but what is your "gut feeling" on the split ?

If you're talking about active members who have posted recently then I think that your 95% figure might even be an underestimate. I'm not aware of that many ladies on here.

Of course don't forget that some members signed up merely to obtain advice rather than being enthusiasts themselves. There is no way separating them from the "anorak brigade".

What constitutes an anorak these days? I sometimes wear a Barbour or a padded Hawkshead windproof jacket, a fleece or a showerproof drill jacket. Functionally the same as anoraks. So, what are they?

I never realised bus travel in the NW of England coud be so contentious

Just noticed it's also had 930,000 plus views - will the system cope when it gets to a million or go back to zero ?

Not contentious, just ever changing in terms of fleets. It would seem that bus fleets are a lot more changeable than the usually fairly fixed railway allocations, though there was also an absolutely huge Grand Central thread that documented the activities of GCs' HST workings when they still had Valenta engines, it died a death as soon as they were fitted with MTUs.

I travel on First East of Scotland every day service 38 from Falkirk to Edinburgh normally. I am disappointed to report the same model is used every day for the last six months

Well be prepared to see a hell of a lot more of that! Some of these threads baffle me.

On the 'anorak' note, I've never been called such a thing, but the likely-hood is if you admit to being a trainspotter you get labelled anything but.

A very long time ago, I drew a picture of an HST in art class, and this boy walks up to me and says 'God, your going to turn into one of those old saddos who sit in their basements flicking switches.'

Well, you can't expect every route to change on a yearly basis, but Stagecoach North West operations covers a pretty wide and diverse geographic area! And of course that thread has been running for a heck of a length of time now, so has had plenty of time to accumulate an awful lot of posts: Though the much more recent "Guess the Station" has overtaken it in terms of total numbers of posts now.
