evening all,

as I'm sure many of you know megabus are a no-thrills coach service, but because of their parent company (stagecoach) you can get train tickets on VT, SWT and EMT

So I've used megabus for the first time and bought a ticket and because of the no-thrills nature of the website my ticket is merely a printout with an order number, reservation number as well as the details of the journey itself

So my question is, will I have any trouble at the barriers at new street or anywhere on my journey? The last thing I want is to miss my booked train because somebody is unfamiliar with a megabus ticket and refuses me access to the platforms!

I have used the SWT Megatrain fares (from Southampton Central to Waterloo), and printed off the email or confirmation. The barrier staff have then opened the gates for me.

the code you have been issued is all you need to travel, it may be worth printing out the confirmation on the off chance you get the new guy but everyone i speak to at work knows what a megatrain code looks like

Can't say for New Street, but when I've used Megatrain on EMT I just show the printout/reference number at the gates or info desk ands they let me through.

I don't think there are any automatic gates at BHM; the barrier is entirely manual so you shouldn't have an issue.

Or if you want (99%) of no hassle on New Street, although I very much doubt you'll get any anyway, use the lifts!

As long as you're on the right train then there should be no problems :)

Errr, Smethwick!

Have used Megatrain tickets several times between Birmingham and Edinburgh or Birmingham and Carlisle (once having an eight-hour day in Edinburgh on a day trip for £3 return, just after they started offering these tickets). Have never had a problem at BHM barriers at all.

Just planning a trip in May to the Newcastle area and am willing to take the time hit to travel from BHM just after 0600 via Carlisle for £5 plus a Carlisle to Newcastle single rather than stump up the £89 XC are currently demanding because they never seem to sell advances at that sort of time on weekdays.
