Launching a service to Blackpool in November and withdrawing it in February wasn't giving it much chance of success.

I reckon London - Southampton - Bournemouth -Poole would do OK now. I recall that Greyhound were operating when Megabus tried it before.

G6 and G7 are the Gold services to Plymouth and Cardiff.

Does anyone know the route numbers to the European destinations like Barcelona and Cologne ?

Definitely not. Agree 100%. Blackpool is a huge, popular town. Possibly the biggest and most popular seaside resort in the country! (well, Brighton creeping close behind).

It should list all that are currently operating in the National Coach Database. So not the Silverstone specials or Event buses. Should also add that Megabus do/did resell tickets for the Oxford Tube, X5 and possibly other Stagecoach Express routes.

It will not mention the International ones as those are outside of Traveline's remit.

There is a route that goes, London - Swindon - Chippenham - Corsham - Bath - Wells - Glastonbury - Exeter. Can't find any trace of it anywhere other than the megabus site.

It could well be an extension of the M18 but it is not listed on traveline.

Several of the megabus routes are changing from the 6th of October, the service from Swansea to Birmingham (but not Birmingham to Swansea) is being cancled, and the route from London to Glastonbury (IRRC) introduced. This might explain the absence of some services from the National Coach Database.

Has for international trips:
I have a trip booked to Barcelona but my ticket is CM11, so I assume I'm taking the M11 as far as London, the return journey is on the CME25 so again I assume that I will be on the ME25 to Paris before changing there.

I have a trip booked from London to Dublin on the CM11A, with the return trip being on CSL1 (for Stena Line?).

In the past I've traveled on CIF1 between Birmingham and Rosslare (Irish Ferries Pembroke Dock to Rosslare) but they don't seem to be selling any tickets for this route after the 6th October.

Wouldn't surprise me if there were changes. Hamilton Grey are now running most of the London - SW runs with ex-Oxford Panthers so the Interdecks can go to Europe. The Morning Northbound M36 has been Panthers most of this week too (not seen it every day but with my shifts this week it's been passing me on the way to work)

I can really only see Megabus being much use to students, the unemployed and maybe active early retired folk. although the latter might prefer the train unless their pension is very modest.

A good point. It is indeed purely for leisurely travel I'd say.

Although the Megabus is substantially cheaper, I think the longer journey times and detourish routes are outweighed by fast trains.

Megabus services from Cardiff to London are almost all students, and occassional daytrippers. I only ever see businessmen on the train.

Megabus is targeted at those who are price sensitive and not time precious - students, unemployed and pensioners.

Also, the routes are not designed about long routes but lots of individual flows that can be stitched together to sweat each vehicle

I'm fully employed and use megabus occasionally. I almost exclusively catch overnight services if I want to travel after the last train has gone (so for example after 2045 from Leeds to london or after 2035 from London to Keighley.

Obviously most people will take the quicker option even if it is more expensive, and in England that usually means train or car. In Ireland and possibly in Scotland, coach is more of a player as there is less difference in time between coach and train, especially after recent motorway improvements. In countries where rail is particularly run down, for example in certain eastern European countries, coach is more popular and more expensive.

Even in England, there are some people who want to save money even if they can afford the train. Myself included. As Deerfold indicated above, coach is particularly strong on overnight services. I also like to use coaches early on Sunday morning because train services are often slow or heavily amended due to engineering work.

I've been travelling once a fortnight between Kent and Wales (Caerphilly) for several years and now exclusively use Megabus London to Cardiff. Usually down to Wales on Tuesday and back on Thursday.

It suits me as if my plans change I can grab a £5 Megabus ticket for a Wednesday right up to the day. If I cant make the journey at all I've only lost a few quid compared with about £43 on advance train tickets. The total journey time is less than an hour more than the train and I can spend time in Cardiff without being in breach of ticket rules !

I have chatted on the bus or at the Cardiff Kingsway stop to businessmen and women, overseas visitors, couples, and people attending auditions, concerts and job interviews in London. Definitely not just students and leisure travellers. Of course it doesn't suit everyone but there are plenty of regular users like me who think it's a great service.

We have an overnight sleeper service from Bristol to Scotland via Cardiff. The service has proper beds as well as seats. Has anyone used this service? What are the beds like? I'm contemplating using it to get up to Scotland next year.

They look good, but it is odd as between Bristol and Cardiff, the same coach is running as 2 separate services.

That service starts as the 19.00 London to Cardiff via Bristol Gold daytime service but can also be booked from Bristol via Cardiff to Glasgow as an overnight sleeper.

I've never travelled overnight myself but I know a couple who used it to visit the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last month. The seats convert to bunks, the upper one is quite difficult to get in and out of and you have to wear a seatbelt even though lying down. They both found it comfortable but difficult to sleep for long and if you're travelling alone you'll be probably be sleeping above or below a stranger ! I asked about the toilet which was apparently better than they expected and remained in service throughout.

They booked well in advance, paid £25 each each way, and saved two nights in a hotel.

Also is this on all Megabus Gold services? I caught the 1630 Cardiff to London (also Gold) back in January and we could sit wherever.
