The driver of a bus that hit a woman who had jumped from a motorway bridge near Glasgow has been suspended.

The 45-year-old woman was believed to have been hit by the vehicle on the M74 on Saturday night after it left Glasgow's Buchanan Bus Station at 11pm heading for London. The driver continued for 150 miles after the accident.

The Megabus service, which was operated by transport company Stagecoach, had begun its journey in Aberdeen and following the accident the driver did not stop the vehicle until its first scheduled stop after Glasgow which was in Preston.

...

One passenger on the bus told STV News that the driver failed to stop even when he was told he had hit someone.

John Thompson said: "I said to the driver, 'you've hit a human being there,' but he kept on going. You could hear it being dragged under the bus for a while."

Mr Thompson added that the driver had announced over the bus's public address system : "The bus hit a woman outside Glasgow and if we'd stopped, you'd have been at the side of the motorway all night."

I don't see how that has been updated the video is the same as it was in March, the driver was suspended and has since had employment terminated as a result of being charged with two traffic offences
Court dates have been set for August 2010

Would have thought one of the passengers would have called the police
If they actually saw that it was a person AND they had a mobile phone
Do I actually believe the person being interviewed? - No
From the background footage it was taken two days later back in Edinburgh, plenty of time to get the facts ready for interview

The incident would have happened at about 23:30 and that section of the M74 is not illuminated

The coach stopped at Preston, so one has to assume a passenger phoned the Police there
Since that would be about 03:00 they obviously didn't take it seriously, equally Preston town centre is quite busy at that time, so priorities would be elsewhere, certainly not what would sound more like a "hoax call"

Oops. This was linked alongside STV's coverage of the X77 bus crash yesternight. I mis-read the dateline as May instead of March; thought it was more recent.

The item may be updated after the court cases
The first is going to be heard at Hamilton, the second at a court in Warwickshire (both of which Ian Laing is to also appear)
