does anyone now how they asess or do they test for colourblindness during your medical for becoming a train driver. i can see all the spectrum of colours but slightly concerned

Yes they use the ishihara style tests at every medical I've had.

If the medical is the same for trackmen i would hazzard a guess and say yes!

The one I had was I****ara (think thats how its spelt!) If you google this test there are several on line versions you can do to check yourself. If you want to be 100% go to an opticians and ask for an eye test to railway group standards. If you want to check your hearing there are several frequency generator free apps for your phone (used by sound engineers etc). One word of warning is that the sounds in the real test are very quiet and you can miss them just by the sound of your breathing!. Good luck.

You are asked what the number is. You don't get suggestions as to what the number might be.

You don't get clues. You can either read it or you can't. There are a couple of images which don't actually show any number, just squiggly lines for normal colour vision.

Re the colour blindness test, just do the numerous online ones. Its exactly the same.

I will point out that some of the plates you're asked to look at don't have any numbers. It's more like "tell me what number you see, or is it just noise?"

Very good point, there are some which can only been seen by someone who has some kind of colour blindness issue. Again the online tests will show you this.

The style of the plates were exactly the same but the numbers were different to the ones shown in that link.

It's pretty much that if you get all the answers correct in that online version then you will easily pass the booklet version.
The doctor just holds the book infront of you and flicks through the pages while you tell him/her what numbers you can see.

a 30 second test is all.

The contrast and colour saturation setting of your monitor may make some of the numbers hard to see in the online version so it's not a wholey accurate test.

I personally can see all the numbers and wiggly lines quite clearly though.

I'm hoping to be offered a Conductor position in the near future, do you need a passport for ID or is a photo licence accepted.

My passport has run out but I don't want to renew it yet as I'm moving house soon.

A UK Passport doesn't include your address.
You can add an address for an emergency contact at the back but not your own address.

I think a passport is also to prove that you are eligible to work in the UK.
I took my expired passport to the medical and didn't have a problem.
Bear in mind that not everyone will have a driving licence.
If in doubt why not take both?

The Photo ID used for your medical is just to establish that it is actually you taking the medical and not some tea total mate you got to stand in for you.

Passport should be fine for medical.

I used my driving license for medical but yes a DL is not accepted at your TOC interview.
