For a safety critical role Is it an automatic fail for the medical if I am taking antidepressants? (50mg Sertraline)

I have been taking them for 2 years treating mild anxiety/low mood. It’s a low dose and I’m not severely depressed or anxious to the point where I’m unable to function. Any side effects I did have disappeared after a month of taking them.

Also I have been driving buses without incident for the two years I’ve been taking them, if that means anything at all.

I don’t think it will be an issue. I take fluoxetine and when I mentioned to the lady doing my medical she didn’t bat an eyelid. I think in this day and age the use of anti depressants is increasingly more common, and as long as you are not having any side effects there really shouldn’t be a barrier because of them.

No, certainly not an automatic fail as it were (far from it in fact). Each case is assessed on its own merits. You’ll probably have a chat with the doctor (as is the case with everybody), and you’ll be able to clarify anything and advise them of what it is you’re taking in terms of meds and the dosage etc. The key is to be open with it all.

Although if you fail to declare it then it likely will be a problem. So make sure you do declare it!
