How intense is the medical? i have mine Tues for a guard position. I`m not massively worried its just because its the final hurdle i guess? i know its blood pressure eye sight drugs alcohol. How strict are they?

It's a full safety critical medical so expect hearing, BMI, etc as well. Also very strict on the drugs and alcohol.

That read wrong I don't drink often and would never take drugs! I just wondered how intense it was as heard different stories?

It's not THAT intense. Satisfactory eyes,ears, blood pressure under 180/100, NO traces of drugs or alcohol, no proteins in urine (diabetes) , not terrible BMI and you'll be fine.

Can I jump in on this thread, what are they actually looking for in the medical, I have recently been successful for the TM role, and am now waiting for the medical, from what I can gather, they will be looking at hears, sight, colour blindness, drugs and alcohol test.

Which for me none of the above are a problem for me.

Do they also do a BMI and ECG and blood pressure test??

I have a high BMI, but due to the amount of running and sport I do I am very fit, but I know my BMI will come in around the 40 mark.

Will you fail a medical on the BMI?

I think as long as you pass the flexibility element you'll be fine - they know BMI isn't particularly helpful on its own.

From my point of view it was very straight forward there not there to fail you and it was very relaxed.

Basically can you touch your knees, do lunges, move your neck/arms.

Well had my medical, failed because my blood pressure was 156/118, never ever been as high as that. No flex test or ecg just a it'll be in my report reply !

So what does that mean for you and any job?

I've no idea, I've not had the official letter through yet and the occy health advisor didn't really mention anything , gonna ask the gp to provide some readings as it's never that high !

Did they do multiple readings? If it was that high after several readings they should have called an ambulance as that's a hypertensive crisis and life threatening.

That was the second and final reading.
Finished off doing the medical , I said I thought that wasn't a true reading as it's usually 125/90 which is still high but nowhere near there. Stress/ pressure of the day I think. Asked if I could get my GP to supply readings which he said was fine, so just waiting to see what happens now tea.
So frustrias I am fitter than a number of TM'S that I've seen (assumption)
