The hearing test involves sitting in a soundproofed booth, you wear headphones and a machine produces beeps at a range of volumes, which you acknowledge by pressing a handheld button.
The eyesight test is relatively standard, a normal opticians chart is displayed and you are asked to read the letters. If you wear lenses or glasses you will also be asked to do the test without them. There will also likely be a colourblindness test, this used to involve numbers made up of coloured dots (Ishihara test) but I understand the format may now have changed.
There will be a check of your blood pressure and any other simple general health matters, and then the drug and alcohol test. This is a simple 'pee in a pot' exercise, generally using a cubicle in the examination room. You'll be asked to remove your jacket and empty your pockets prior to doing the deed (to ensure you're not concealing any substitute sample), and your sample will be temperature tested upon handing it over to ensure it is genuine. It is then sealed and labelled in your presence, and sent for analysis. Generally, if the sample is satisfactory you will hear no more.
