Medical question

I’m wondering if someone can help regarding a question I have with the medical.

I have a existing heart condition that causes me no problems, and hasn’t changed in years, will this be a problem? I’ve looked on all the documentation I can find about railway medicals and heart conditions aren’t mentioned anywhere! I’m sure I’ve seen people on here posting and passing their medical with a stent in as well!

I believe they will carry out an ECG to detect any irregular heart rhythms. If it doesn’t flag up on that, I’d imagine it would be okay, but can’t say for sure of course. You should declare it to them when they ask though, and if you’re on any medication this should also be declared. I don’t think anybody can answer definitively other than the TOC or organisation carrying out the medical. It’s such a medical minefield unfortunately and things like this (as with medication) are taken on individual merit most of the time.

Cheers. It doesn't effect the rhythm of my heart or anything like that. It's never effected me at all to be honest. No medication or anything. I was going to declare it!

I’ve not long had a medical and there was no ecg test just blood pressure, eye sight, colour blind, drug & alcohol, weight / height / bmi and also a hearing test which I found quite difficult to be fair even though never struggled with hearing, but I think I had some wax in my right ear so my advice would be to get some drops down there just incase lol

That’s interesting then, I always thought there was an ECG for driver Medicals. I have had safety critical medicals before and never have had an ECG either, I just assumed it was only for drivers? Maybe it varies between TOCs?

I’ve never worried about my heart, but the thought of having an ECG makes me worry they will find something I didn’t know I had lol. I echo what you say about the hearing test, I find I hear things that aren’t there because of the sound proofing of the room (the usually dull ringing which makes you feel you’re hearing beeps which aren’t there?....maybe that’s just me?).

It might be a different role that isn't track side. I never had one for my signaller medical but did for both my driver medicals.

Yes mate, and as said above it's all on a case by case basis. Just turn up to the medical deare anything that is in the questionnaire and let them make the decision.
