Medical For Conductor

Hello

I have a medical coming up for a conductor position at FGW. I was wondering if anybody knows what is checked in the medical these days?

Any advice would be appreciated

The medical is quite basic really. Eyes, hearing, weight bmi. They will breath test for booze and take a urine sample to check for diabetes and kidney probs. The urine will then be sent for drug testing. Your bp will be taken and also declare any prescription meds you are on and any non prescription stuff you may have taken recently. They don't want to fail you so be honest. I am on 3 separate meds and have a bmi of 31.5 and i passed. It's nothing like the RAF medical i had at 16.

Just a quick question regarding BMI. I am an active male, fairly fit, Ex military ect but my BMI is 33 (on its way down slowly I must add) The limit tends to be 33 with most TOCs, if I was to sit a medical tomorrow, would I pass or fail. How strict is the 33 BMI limit?

My BMI is up around the same level, and I passed the medical with no problems. I think it depends a lot on your lifestyle as well. I'm 6 foot and almost 18 stone, but I had a fairly active job when I passed it, so I wasn't sitting around getting bigger!!! BUPA will ask you questions about your general health and wellbeing as well, so I don't believe the BMI is hard and fast.

Thanks a lot for this. I was quite worried about this as I'm never ill, not health problem but after being a lorry driver and a desk jockey for 4 years I've gotten a bit..... sloppy lets say. I've got a very active job now so I'm loosing the weight again so I know I'm perfectly healthy but I didn't want to be shut out because of paperwork and rules.

Your BMI will be fine, when they take your height, make sure you add an inch to it by standing really straight. I'm 6ft but on the day they put me down as 6'2. You will pass. Declare any meds though.
