On the 222s, a GPS signal can easily be picked up in the vestibules.
Measuring the train's speed for fun is of course a good enough reason for doing it, but following the train's progress on an app has a practical application: finding out where you are. The Android app OsmAnd has free downloadable maps (so no data use required) and shows the speed.

The suite of applications from HERE will do most of this. The maps are downloadable so you get offline usage.

I am curious as to why there is a coating on the windows - other than to make it nigh on impossible to see what's inside and be unable to wave your goodbyes or tell whether this or that carriage is a good one to find a seat.
To reflect heat in the warmer weather?
