Hello,

i'm a approved signalman in Germany but i'm making now timtables for railstations (Fahrplan für Zugmeldestellen in german) now i would like to stay a shorter time in Great britain for a job experience. so i would like to work for TOC or network rail for about 3-4 months. has anybody of you an idea wether this is possible or has anybody of you connections to responsible people on TOC who offer stuff like this.

I'm working right now for DB Networks in Karlsruhe, Germany.

One possibility would be to see if you could get involved with a TOC operated by Arriva Trains UK (subsidiary of DB) - so that could include Arriva Trains Wales, Cross Country, Chiltern, London Overground, Grand Central or Tyne and Wear Metro. Signalling in the UK is generally the remit of Network Rail, but signalling on the Tyne and Wear Metro network is controlled by DB staff (apart from on the Sunderland Extension).

Funnily enough I was over in Karlsruhe recently to look at the Die Kombilosung project, and Stuttgart 21.

Hello Stefan,

I would imagine it is possible as when I worked for WSMR and Chiltern some DB staff were over from Germany to get job experience etc on the NR infrastructure, you will need to approach your current line manager and of course have a valid reason to be posted in the UK proving that it will enhance your experience in your current role! - good luck
