Maybank - Riverside - whats your record? (HST only)

hi all,

Me and Julian have set a time record for the Maybank - Riverside leg.

Ive done it in 7 mins 6 seconds, julian has done it in 7mins 50 seconds.

I used my HST4 DVT which pulls away slightly slower but still, record is to be set in the HST4 we used the 14:00 diagram

there is no using F7 to bang stop or emergency brakes please!

Nice one James, I hope you were driving with sensible braking forces and applying power in new PSRs after the whole set was away from the old one. Not to forget, of course, having no overspeed reports!

I'm having another go later to better my record, but on the newest version I doubt anyone will have under 7 minutes without braking too hard, too late, acclerating before fully entering a new PSR or speeding.

Also, to clarify how you get your time, you start counting from the second you see the train moving on the screen until the time you stop at Riverside. My record, therefore, goes along the lines of:

14:00:45 - 14:08:35 (giving me 7 minutes, 50 seconds)

Obviously, this is using the clock in BVE4 so display it using F2.

So far, then, we have:

James - 7m06s
Julian - 7m12s
Mintona - 7m10s
Jordy - 6m57s

Anyone care to beat it? Remember, this is driving the 14:00 HST Maybank - Hammerwich run, on the most recent (February 2008) version of NWM. The BVE4 version of the HST should be used too.

Waited til 1201 to make sure all the signals were green

I can quite easily clear the whole section in a Pendo in just over 6 minutes...

But a HST I think the best I have done is 7 mins 55....

I like to be gentle on the throttle and braking - theres no rush

No need, unless you really fancy doing so.

Congrats Mintona on your time, not half bad! More determined I am now to do better.

I'd like to know how nath9425 can do the section in such a short time on a 390 though...But yes, as you correctly identify harsh braking is to be avoided.

Incorrect James, once I eventually get the RA, I start off in notch 3, as notch 5 is believed (by myself if nothing else) to be too much power for a smooth take-off. If it was an MTU, I'd take off in N4, but with the HST as is for BVE4, N3 is deemed adequate. Especially since the PSR is 30 out of Maybank!

Since everyone else is using N5 to move off, I shall on my attempt now.

EDIT: Using N5 more often, I got 7m20s. Trying again...The next attempt was hardly any different, so one more try for now saw me hit 7m12s. Took some flipping doing, but there we go.

6mins 56 on the newest version. Straight into Notch 5 from the off, held off when leaving with the 30-40-70 section so I was just making 40 when I cleared to the 70. Slightly aggressive braking to the stop. Also waiting to 13.03 to ensure all signals were clear.

lol well the 14:00 diagram is usually greens from the start, those using the 13:00 are using the wrong diagram anyway! (and hopefully not using a pendo)

Departed Maybank 14:01:00 precisely
Came to a halt at Riverside 14:06:15, about 0.5 m from the red signal at the platform end, after tripping the TPWS upon entering the 40mph limit doing about 80mph.
Total journey time therefore 00:05:15, although I think I may not have complied fully with some of the rules and regulations!

I errr managed it in 6mins 25secs (by turning TPWS off and entering riverside at about 60 and slamming the brakes on) I do apologise - I'd say thats rather crap considering lol

Right lets make this clear

The record is to be set in a HST and those who cant get top framerates like me should get more RAM/upgraded graphics card..

The record is to be done is SERVICE not ECS, so basically its seeing how fast you can get there in service in the fastest time.
by service, I mean with passengers on the normal diragram, so (like HSTfan and others) rocketing into Riverside and Passengers ending up in the engine room is not allowed and will not be accepted.

the rulebook must be abided to as well HSTfan, so turning off TPWS and other systems, I cant really count your time lol!

Besides theres no point in cheating, there is no prize.

I played by the rules and did it with the HST. Best so far of 7m 10s.
I know it isnt really feasible but wouldnt it be great if everyone could post a youtube link of their attempt for both evidence and to incorporate other peoples tactics into your own.
On the subject of framerates, i get around 15fps and that is running an absolute rubbish system.

Is there a way of recording videos of BVE4 runs? People seem to do it all the time with Runescape, so it must be doable without hooking up a camcorder for our purposes.

James has stated the rules with this challenge, please at least try to abide by them if you want to take part in this challenge. 390 or other traction records will not be counted. Crappy frame rates? Do something about it then or don't bother.

Turbocharging down the route is not acceptable because it is a challenge to see how fast it can be done within acceptable passenger forces. Extreme braking is a no-no, as is going insane with the power. N5'ing it from the start in reality on the level with two healthy Valentas would be rather looked down on. Looking at the amps reading when I put it into N5 just after getting the set moving in N3 the other day, the needle was almost all the way round to the far right. Eyes were almost popping out of my head...

EDIT: My brother who has previously played Runescape says that Hypercam is the normal way they do it there. There is a trial version available, I'm going to try and get it tonight. I'll post further on it later.

as for recording in fraps anyone btw, be careful, I paid £19 for the full version not long ago and didnt work in anything apart from DivX, there are seperate codecs for this version and is completley confusing,

I think a trial of SnagIt may work

Well, I tried HyperCam. It's terrible. The only framerate it would record in was 1 frame per second. The resulting video is awful and not worth even trying to upload.

Driving sensibly, though, I got 7m23s. That's without mental use of N5 or braking too hard.
