As an overall journey, Parkway is still competitive for me. The bus into the city centre from where I live takes quite a long time and especially at peak times cannot be relied upon to make any kind of connection. If I go that way it can be well over an hour after I've left my house before I'm leaving Oxford station, and even if the bus does make a connection it's 45+ minutes from setting off that I'm getting on the train. In theory I could drive to the city centre, but only an idiot drives into Oxford city centre if they have a remotely credible alternative.
If I drive to Parkway leaving a sensible margin I can be on the train towards Marylebone 20-25 minutes after walking out of my door.
It then depends whether Baker Street or Paddington is better for connecting to wherever I'm actually going...
