I think there could still be a gap in the Liverpool to Norwich with the one around ten to nine from Liverpool missing? Really needs to come back. In fact, it really needed to come back in summer 2021.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
I have noticed that it is mainly TP and one EC that calls at Reston from May.

I do recall reading somewhere a while ago (maybe one of the ECML post HS2 (Toton Interchange version) consultation documents) that Crosscountry had offered to call at Reston, but not with the same train that calls Dunbar (suggesting alternating calls every 2 hours).

Has this now fell by the wayside and its being left to TP to call at Reston?

PS I am not advocating increasing frequency there as broadly 2 hourly seems right while linking into the local buses there.

I think the XC calls were part of the ECML recast plans of yesteryear, along with stops at Northallerton and a reintroduction of Reading-Newcastle services (albeit with north of York alternating with TPE.) There's a thread on here somewhere about it. Should have begun in May 2022. A long and distant memory now in this dismal new world of cuts.

Looks like East Linton calls are in the May 2023 TT - albeit unadvertised currently.
The local newspaper suggests otherwise

https://www.eastlothiancourier.com/...inton-railway-station-track-open-spring-2024/

Mr Hoy said he would continue to closely follow development of the planned car park, which will offer active travel opportunities, and the proposed bridge over the railway to replace the level crossing at Markle Steading.

Allison Cosgrove, vice-chairwoman of Dunpender Community Council, which covers East Linton, said that the work was coming on in “leaps and bounds”.

She was hopeful that the station could be open before March next year as issues with the level crossing at Markle could be resolved.

Seems to have the same issues as Thanet Parkway - not sure how a new stations and existing LX aren't compatible anymore

The issue at Thanet (can't speak for East Linton) is that they're currently AHB crossings set up with Strike-in points for non-stopping trains only. The problem is that a stopping train would trigger the lights, but then take several minutes to get to the crossing by which time cars may be trying to weave around the barriers or the crossing may time out and cancel the sequence. So it needs an additional strike-in point adding for stopping trains as well as extra barriers adding to take it to a full barrier crossing (Not sure exactly what spec it's going to).

Thanks for explaining can see what the issue would be and suspect it will be similar for East Linton given the proximity of Markle Steading LX. Given station is virtually complete at East Linton shame they haven't been able to deliver the LX works in the same timeframe as station build but at least the TT is ready for it as soon as its completed.

The Elizabeth line timetable has reduced the dwell awaiting Paddington in the Eastbound direction as has long been planned - the journey time to Ealing Broadway to Paddington appears to be evenly 9/10 minutes.

Good. Now are they going to fix the enormous amount of extra running time on reading trains which sees many of them waiting at both Ealing Broadway and Southall for some times up to five minutes as happened to me several times recently? The approach to Paddington eastbound is going to be really good as it's currently to my way of thinking one of the few downsides of another wise good service

I think it will be reduced but it is practically impossible to entirely remove all of that time since the trains will always be close behind ex-Heathrow services which call at Hanwell, West Ealing and Acton Main Line. Should be at least 5 mins faster into pad than it is now tho

First class tickets are also showing as 'not available' more or less across the board on their booking engine, though I did find one or two early morning exceptions. If it is a change, they are keeping very quiet about it!

It's now confirmed officially to passengers that WMT are abolishing 1st as of the timetable change:

Removal of First Class

In response to changing customer demand, from Sunday 21 May 2023 we will be removing First Class on our services. Anyone holding a First Class ticket for travel dated 21 May or later – including season ticket holders - should visit a station ticket office or contact us to claim a refund.

EMR First Class is pretty good in my experience (especially when the price is sometimes less than £10 more than Standard, which is the only time I've used it). The big problem though is that there is far too much of it, taking up typically over a third of the train, it's not uncommon for Standard to be standing room only while First is half empty. It would be a lot better if it was contained to a smaller part of the train, but I don't think it needs abolishing considering the Intercity nature of the trains it exists on.

A fair few continue to have 1-2 minutes of pathing time so might arrive at Southall early and sit for a few minutes. I don't think it will be as extreme as it is now as the whole route timetable is aligned, the GWML is recast and the service intensity increases.

I am very pleased to see the improvements to the snow hill line this coming may as eg local services will be every 30 mins mon-sat, but should be the same too, but would be a good idea to make the weekday every 20 mins, also I see on our line Cross City line that
still runs 4 trains per hour Mon to Sat, but should be every 15 mins, which at the min is two in 10 mins then around 20 mins wait, I would it to go back to being every 10 mins like it used to be, I know the 6 car trains carry more people and when we get a new class 730 metro trains will be even better.. i belive some point this year.

Is there more demand on weekdays than Saturdays?

If you go to every 15min, you might have to reorganise the whole timetable through New Street - and if you do that, it will be set in stone for a few years, so preventing a return to 10min services anyway. Sorry, you have to choose :)

hi not sure about the snow hill lines, but I do know our cross-city line can get very busy, also they did say the new timetable that came into effect last year was in advance for our new Camphill line service that starts later this year in December 2023 because will use kings Norton rail station, and at new street, which will be every 30 mins. which means South Birmingham will have a choice of two local lines.

Speak for yourself mate. I'm very happy with Meridian First thanks.

Commuter and IC first are two entirely different things. The latter is an increased quality of service for those who want to pay more to get more (it's fine that not everyone considers it good value), the former is an expensive seat reservation.

Those stations arent opening this year. Kings Norton needs remodelling with the bay in the island platfrom before the Cross City ever gets back to 6tph and even then it might not ever do that.
