Does anyone know of any changes to train times / services this coming May? Having a quick glance through NRE doesn't seem to highlight any changes and I've not read in any magazines of anything planned. Of course generally speaking the summer timetable tends to only feature minor alterations and extra seasonal services, but does anyone know if anything of actual note is changing?

Cheers

Some minor changes for Southern at London Bridge in connection with the permanent reduction from 9 to 6 platforms. Most significant is that one up morning peak train has to go to VIC instead.

Some Northern services are to get longer dwell times at some stations from the May timetable change to allow for higher loadings. Replacing Pacers with trains with 4 sets of double doors for every 2 carriages would probably have the same effect.

I've heard 2O67 Bristol - Weymouth will be a Class 67 again, according to someone I know at Transport2000, don't believe it until I see it though

That would be great, but as is so often the case the gen has probably come from a platform end...

Actually you could have saved some words there. My version would be 'Replacing Pacers with trains would help' :D

Considering FGW will need something to cover for the class 165/166's going away for refurbishment the idea that FGW could go back to loco hauled trains for a short period might not be so unbeliveable.

After all 150's 150921 & 150927 both being 3 carriage units could go to reading to work alongside 150001 & 150002 to work on the Reading - Bassingstoke and thames valley branchlines. The loco hauled trains could then work certain busy services around Bristol like they did a few years ago.

Unlikely to be 67's though now.

Hardly think so as there are rumours about pulling the 150s away from Reading anyway and transferring to PM'. The Saturday Weymouth was DMU worked last Summer so it is hardly likely to revert back to loco hauled again.

I kept hearing it was supposed to carry on each year with HST's. Obviously didn't happen but of course it technically did but for Olympic relief (only ran a couple of times in service IIRC?)

The HST stop boards are still there just in case, depends if they are ever needed again!

Chiltern are proposing to extend the Sunday Aylesbury - Amersham shuttles through to Marylebone, providing a half hourly service in the afternoon, switching two pairs of Marylebone - Aylesbury via High Wycombe (and return) trains back to separate Marylebone - Princes Risborough and Princes Risborough - Aylesbury services to allow extra freight paths along the branch, adding three extra Marylebone - High Wycombe services on Sundays, and adding contingent rights to call at Stratford-upon-Avon Parkway when it opens.

According to TRUST, Grand Central will achieve the extension of their fifth train which currently runs as 12.53 Kings Cross to Hartlepool and 14.47 Hartlepool to Kings Cross to run to and from Sunderland. The southbound train will depart from Sunderland at 14.06 and have a 17 minute dwell at Hartlepool to pick up it's current path. It still won't call at Thirsk.

Looks to be some minor changes to the Ramsgate -London services along the Chatham Main Line, with a couple of morning peak services retimed by 1-2 minutes to allow a call at Newington:

0609 Ramsgate - Victoria will depart at 0608 from May
0659 Ramsgate - Cannon Street will depart at 0657 from May

Also, the 0700 Broadstairs - St Pancras will now depart 2 minutes earlier, seemingly for no other reason than introducing some slack - it's timetabled to arrive at STP at the same time as now.

Means that it must've been running late alot lately, their way of getting out of delay refunds. southeastern has so much slack in their timetables it's ridiculous sometimes.

Southeastern has to be one of the most complicated networks to timetable, with numerous flat junctions and many different services. Try timetabling all that lot without pathing time :)

Most minor odd minute retimings are as a result of analysis of performance data. With more people using the railway station dwell times have to be adjusted to reflect this.

London Midland 08:05 Rugeley Trent Valley to Birmingham New Street is timed to depart Rugeley at 08:02 and will make extra stops at Landywood, Bloxwich North and Bloxwich. These are stops that were withdrawn last year.

However, the 07:07 Birmingham-Rugeley service will now run fast from Walsall to Cannock.

Southern are proposing to bring 12 ECS moves between Brighton and Hove into passenger service on Sundays.

Ah, I missed that.

It would also seem that from the May timetable, the 0705 Ramsgate - Victoria attaches at Faversham to a Dover portion, so will this be a 12-car (8-car - as now - from Ramsgate, attaching to a further 4 coaches at Faversham) or an 8-car (two 4-car portions)?

Not looked yet, but Sunday services in Yellerbelly Country will be restored on the Lincoln - Mkt Rasen - Grimsby route and Skegvegas services will commence earlier for the summer than they are in winter as per usual.

Shouldn't need much, platform occupany isn't that tight even in the peaks and outside of that you are laughing anyway. All the Peckham Rye stuff (which remains 6tph in the peak so includes the Dec extras which replaced the SLL) moves into Plat 13, everything from 13 is shuffled into the currently unused P10 and in the peak 8-12 are presumably tightened up a bit more for the mainliners - can't see any less trains in a quick glance at the PM peak.

If they can work reliabily what is in on paper then everyone is a winner as no trek to 14-16 is required from May onwards.

Is there any way to get hold of the full timetable for say FGW or are they just in the journey planner as yet?

The only change Southern have applied for is the 0725 ex Tonbridge to be diverted to Victoria.

I see SWT are making the usual extremely minor changes to their overall timetable, one of only two changes is that on weekdays the 1915 Waterloo to Havant is being extended through to Southampton Central by bringing the current ECS section of the service into passenger use.

Showing it as a Southampton service at Waterloo ought to confuse a few passengers, I expect...

Would it not show as Fareham or St Denys or somewhere like that, depending on the stopping pattern, a bit like what FGW do with the Oxford and Reading stoppers?

You'd expect so - maybe change the PIS at Guildford or somewhere? Probably easiest just to continue showing Havant on leaving Waterloo, as the normal service to Fareham goes the other way, and it's non - stop Fareham to Southampton anyway...
