I am planning another trip to Hungary, centered on Budapest but I want to explore a bit more of Hungary.

Does anyone know of the best routes to pick up some V43's from Budapest? Also which routes the V43's work for GySEV? It does look like GySev is a little erratic as today two M44.3 shunters worked an intercity train!

One last question, are the M41's common in Budapest? They used to be pretty decent engines but I understand they are now being reengined?

No particular route IMO, those things get everywhere there is OHL.

Look at the GySEV lines from Szombathely though I believe that they do have the odd working through to Budapest. The M44s were standing in for a class 651 diesel (former DB class 232) which I think they only have three to cover the three diagrams at present though a 4th loco has arrived in Hungary and being made ready.

One last question, are the M41's common in Budapest?

Not really only on a few, mostly peak hour turns, on Line 142 from Nyugati to Lajosmizse and even some of those have been reported as DMU on occasions recently.

Don’t think any more have been done recently, the 418 3xx series are the ones to avoid.

Suggest you join the “Hunrail” Yahoo group if you haven’t already done so, there are diagrams on there and you will nearly always get an answer to any questions.
