According to informed sources, Nicola Sturgeon is delighted that the mask mandate in Scotland has kept case rates to only around twice the rate in England; without the mandate it is estimated that case rates would be three times higher than England.
Sturgeon therefore plans for ScotRail to introduce two classes on all their services from 18th April; first class will be expanded and rebranded - a new name is yet to be decided - and will not require masks.
Standard class will continue to require masks indefinitely; additional ticket inspectors will be recruited to enforce this, any customer found unmasked will be issued an upgrade to first class at twice the usual upgrade price.
Those passengers travelling to attend religious ceremonies, such as memorial services, will be issued with complimentary first class upgrades, to ensure they can "use their judgement".
Sources close to Sturgeon indicate she believes the majority of people agree with the requirement to wear masks in certain settings, and that the lower case rates in England were good evidence of how reckless the rules are there.
