It appears that the self-service ticket machines at MYB do not sell Super Off-Peak Returns (for instance, to Warwick) and only offer the much more expensive Off-Peak Returns. Very naughty (and surely something that the Office of the Rail Regulator needs to address?).

Don't sell them at all, or only sell them when they are valid?

Speaking of the Marylebone machines, when collecting TOD tickets, when you press the “Confirm” button after entering the code, on the next screen, the “Cancel Printing” button is in the same place as the “Confirm” button from the previous screen. To add to this, the machines are not immediately responsive and often have a bit of a delay.

So if you don’t remember, you tap again on Confirm thinking it hasn’t recognised the tap, and then accidentally hit the Cancel button. Very frustrating.

In addition to complaining on here, why not provide feedback directly to Chiltern? There's more chance of getting something done that way!

You can fill out the contact form here, send them a Tweet (@chilternrailway), call them on 03456 005 165 (0830 to 1730 Monday to Friday), write to FREEPOST Chiltern Railways or find them on Facebook (@chilternrailway)...Hell, you can even send them a fax on (01926) 729 914!

I have in the past found that I cannot buy the cheaper "route Hugh Wycombe" tickets when actually at Marylebone, at the ticket office and have only ever been able to obtain these from across London, e.g at my home station of Epsom.

Assuming these tickets are indeed only available where a cross London journey is involved ( are they? Or have I just opened a can of worms...? ) then it looks as if the ticket machines are simply reflecting the ticket office in that respect?

In my experience, logging something with customer services at certain train companies sees a fob-off reply and the issue being swept under the carpet. Posting here ensures it is seen by relevant managers and organisations.

Is there a notice on the machine informing people of the limitations? If not, this is a consumer law breach, which is reportable to the ORR.

The "via High Wycombe" tickets apply for London Terminals to Bicester Village, Islip and Oxford Parkway; and for London Terminals to Lapworth and beyond. Anything else on the main line will be Any Permitted or via Banbury.

As for the Ticket Office, Chiltern use Cubic FasTIS, which lists all the fares available in ascending order of price and highlights what it thinks is the cheapest option for the journey as input.

Whilst that may be the case in some companies, logging it through a Customer Services department means it gets included in their management reporting figures.

I have been refused the route High Wycombe tickets at Marylebone twice in the past two years when specifically asking for them...
