Hello all, does anyone know what happened east of Cardiff around 1900 yesterday please? The train I was on suddenly ground to a halt, waited a while then went quite slowly for a while (we passed others going slowly the other way too). There was an announcement saying it was to check for damage ahead?

Precisely that, I would guess. Trains cautioned to examine the line for any damage. The driver would then report to the signaller whether or not they had seen, felt or heard anything abnormal. (Edited for spelling)
