Hi there,

Flying to Marrakech on Sunday, now...
has anybody any tips on how to use the railway out there? me and the Mrs want to take a day trip to Casablanca and maybe to some other places on the network if they can be done in a day?

I have been on the trains there a couple of times.

The stations are very smart and the trains are cheap and of good quality, much better than trying to fly domestically, which is very unreliable.

Two words of warning, take your own toilet paper as the train toilets are a bit basic. Secondly check when the public holidays are, I travelled on the day of Eid and it was very busy although first class was ok.

No problem. Also the food at the stations are quite good if you want ice cream coffee bars, and burger bars, ATM.

If you want to go to Essaouira, (old small town on the sea) you can only go by bus. If you take the bus from the rail station it is more expensive than the one at the bus station but it is more comfortable, proper air conditioning and no extra luggage charges. I mistakenly took the one from the bus station which was interesting to see how the locals travelled but slower and stops more regularly including stops where ticket touts get on to sell you a variety of things. The rail station has none of these hassles.
